Geo-tagging ruining Nature

Visitors and travelers are geotagging photographs on social-media, continuously. They don’t know how can it affect the nature. A few years ago, one or two people go in remote areas, to get peace of the mind or to trek some of the hiking places. But now, from when the smartphones are becoming an essential of life, taking mesmerizing photographs and then tagging that on to the social media is becoming very common. People go crazy that they reached there and saw the extreme beauty, very first in there group/circle. They share with other people to make friends and relatives jealous, resulting into making those people to touch the same.

“People should have a real connection to nature, not just a page with a pin on it”. Now locals are protesting the photo-tourism, complaining about the travelers taking selfies abound. Some time ago, flower growers were allowing visitors to see and appraise their growing efforts and beauty, but recently they are barring them because visitors are damaging their fields.

Now, conservationists are also concerned that photographers who geotag their precise locations are putting fragile ecosystems and wild animals at risk. As a defense, they are asking tourists to stop.

Signs are now being attached to fences in safari parks and routes, requesting not to share the locations of the animals. However, it could take years for behaviour to change because smartphones are not going away. We people only should start a responsible conversation about social media and conservation of nature.
