Natural Cleanser for Automobiles

Dry Sal tree leaves (Shorea Robusta) strewn on the ground across forests may soon be used to produce a non-corrosive de-greasing and cleansing formulation for automobile parts and similar machine components.

The natural cleanser is being projected by the government as an eco-friendly alternative to synthetic products currently available. The govt. plans to prepare a commercialization plan by October for initiating the de-greasing formulation into the market. Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation (TRIFED) of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs has signed an MOU with National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) to file for patenting the product.

With dry Sal leaves found in abundance in forests across India, particularly in densely forested tribal belts of Jharkhand, Chattisgarh and Odisha, the Ministry sees this new de-greasing agent with non-corrosive properties an effective alternative to chemical based cleansers used in industries. The natural cleanser has been tested in the automobile sector.
