Organic Food Waste to Biodegradable Plastic

A Green Technology has been developed to convert organic food waste into biodegradable plastics.. Such plastics are water soluble and without any harmful effects.

The start-up has scaled up  lab process of producing biodegradable plastics to a demonstration plant that is capable of turning 3000 kg per week organic food waste into biodegredable plastics. This type of bioplastics are called polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA).

By replacing conventional petroleum based plastics, PHA bioplastics can reduce green house gas emissions and plastic pollution due to waste accumulation. This plastic would be used for high-end applications including manufacturing of coffee cups, straws, plastic bags, 3D printing filaments, medical purpose and personal care products.

PHAs have mechanical and physical properties similar to commodity plastics but biodegredability is an added advantage. This technology will help both in disposal of organic waste (which significantly contributes to GHG emissions) and tackle the challenge of plastic pollution.

  1. I’m extremely inspired together with your writing talents and also with the structure on your weblog. Is that this a paid subject matter or did you customize it your self? Either way stay up the nice high quality writing, it is rare to look a great blog like this one nowadays..

  2. The very heart of your writing while sounding reasonable initially, did not settle very well with me personally after some time. Someplace within the paragraphs you were able to make me a believer unfortunately just for a while. I still have a problem with your leaps in logic and one would do nicely to fill in all those breaks. When you can accomplish that, I will surely be impressed.
