In a first of its kind initiative, “green” crematorium will be built in villages along the Ganga. These will come up at Rishikesh, Haridwar, Uttarkashi and Gangotri and will offer ecologically responsible cremation to ensure that the environment and the holy river are not polluted.
Conventional cremation consume up to 600 kg of wood per body, while gree crematoriums will need only 100 kg. The cremation will be done using a specially created pyre oven which would generate enough heat to burn body effectively.
This step is taken under the upcoming “Ganga River Act”, to maintain its purity.
