In a span of just seven months, Ahmedabad based start up Saathi Pads pushed up sanitary napkin use in 40 villages of Jharkhand from 23% to 80%. The company conducted interventions to increase awareness of modern pads and remove taboos regarding menstruation. They also addressed the affordability issue with sustainable, cheap and biodegradable sanitary napkins.
The company makes 100% bio-degradable sanitary napkins, which are 55% cheaper than other premium brands. They offer pads made of banana fibres- a kind of agricultural waste. This company is planning to expand the reach of its products. Recently it launched bamboo fibre based sanitary napkins as well.
