Super foods

There is no set definition of super food, but the food that has higher nutritional value and packed with essential vitamins, acids and minerals is termed ‘super food’.

The Good Food:

Kodo Millet: Gluten free, low glycemic index, high fibre, anti oxidant, suggested for diabetics.

Finger Millet: Better fibre content, source of carbohydrate, iron source, suggested for weight loss.

Barnyard Millet (Moraiyo): Low calorie, low glycemic index, high fibre, suggested for blood glucose.

Sorgham (Jowar): High vitamin B, copper, calcium, potassium, suggested for weight loss.

Nutritionist advise mix of flours instead of one in daily consumption that would make the food more enriching. Mixing Pearl Millet (Bajra) flour with Wheat flour would increase iron, potassium, niacin and B3 whereas gram flour (besan) is good to supplement protein and fibre intake. Ragi is an easy super food which can be consumed in a number of ways for daily supplement.
